I’m bummed you lost the sense of community you were experiencing on Twitter. Have you found any promising other places to feel connected to people who have the same cultural touchstones as you?

I know it’s not the same but I was thrown off LinkedIn for how I identify. After 20 years as a cartoon character there-boom, poof, gone. These platforms hurt literally everyone. So why do we put up with this shit?

This reached me at the right time. I've been on Twitter since it started, and finally was blocked for the first time yesterday. I got back in and the system said other people might see a warning on my posts for some unclear reason. In the last few months I've seen lots of overt racism on there (it's easy to find by putting in certain keywords like "frens"), Jewish hate (put in "six million cookies"), and lies spread as news, but I've engaged in none of that. I DO express my opinion to the conservative posters who've suddenly been appearing in my feed every time I open X. I talk back with facts showing Trump denied the pandemic while a million died, that he lied, that his own veep won't support him. And I respond to Elon's propaganda and memes, including his recent post about his "frens." Not sure which thing got me blocked. It's mostly a waste of time but it's sad to see a nice warm bed being created to host propaganda, and scary things are sure to happen this election season with out and out fake news being spread unchecked. It was bad enough last time -- the prez himself sent around a false post saying only 9,000 people died of covid total. Other opinions are fine. False info spread by a powerful man is dangerous. I feel like people who actually research stuff and spread facts need to stay on there, but it's going to be hard.

Ultimately the only real moderation that scales is community moderation which is why stuff like federated social media is so important as the future of social media.
