So thought provoking. Back when I was in thick of raising a family, my mom told me her grandmother once said she felt bad for modern women, that before there were laundry machines, no one expected her to do much except the laundry every Tuesdays. Or bake bread on Friday etc. That kind of focus, a lifestyle of NOT multitasking sounds great and I personally strive towards implementing in my own life.

Sara, this is at the heart of everything. I share many of these views, and have also made some tough though satisfying decisions about work and money and life. My favorite part is getting used to others' being disappointed (their problem), which can turn into a personal challenge to practice until it feels ok, like being the "bad" kid (guessing many reading this were raised to be pleasers, high achievers, "good girls," perfectionists, that kind of thing). There is freedom and dignity in taking back your agency and saying no, fuck that, I'm a grownass woman, and I will be and do what my heart says, not what an anxiety-ridden, greed-arranged society sweeps people up into believing they "should" be. Thanks!

Hello Sara,

This was a timely piece for me. I work in a fast paced industry where things change constantly. It's unnerving to me, but to others they live on the adrenaline. I realized, 4 weeks of vacation don't cut it when working over 50 hours a week the other 48 weeks. It also isn't fun being numb on the weekends, meaning mindless chores or routine errands. Saying no is costly when the environment dictates, customer service at all hours of the day or night - what I call the making of martyrs.

So what I do for self care: anything I'm good at, organizing, outlining a process, or writing instructions. It's fun work for me. It gives me a firm foundation, not the surfboard on the ocean dizzying rapid fire learn quick and implement now and then pivot to something not at all related.

Sara, this is a critical point for me. I am a new writer here and on every platform known to techBrokind. I am here to tell the truth, at age 69, on what's going on with that. This is a major part of the problem, what u write about above. This techBro utopia has been designed so that any problem, ANY problem at all with any of the ratty devices or software they produce is, u guessed it, OUR fault (implication, don't call us, we won't call u). But what that does, is to put the burden of everything on dear user, who does not understand, feels guilty or dumb or slow or whatever the opposite of the techbro utopia guidelines say they should be. I don't even know what they are, these rules, for move fast and break things, but I am sure that I once helped code up the underlying basis for these destructive trinkets they hand out today. And I can't let this stand. See, even in this case EYE feel guilty, for just existing. So folks, follow me on Medium.com where I have started my campaign of railing against narcissistic billionareBros until the end of my days, and as I am living the life of a youtube content creator trying to survive, that may not be long from today.
